About this map. Freedom House scores each country from 0 to 100 on political rights and civil liberties and assigns a status of Free, Partly Free or Not Free. This map shows freedom as Freedom House measures it. It is a descriptive baseline, not a measure of democratic resilience; the Civic Atlas Project’s own analysis appears in its briefs and blogs. Each year shown is a Freedom in the World edition, which covers the preceding calendar year. Countries drawn in grey are not rated in this dataset. Outlined countries have Civic Atlas pieces tagged to them.
