About the Project

The Civic Atlas Project is an independent research initiative focused on understanding the resilience of democratic institutions in a period of rapid political, technological, and societal change. Through research and analysis, the project seeks to examine the pressures facing democratic governance and to contribute to discussions on how democratic systems can adapt and endure.

The project was founded by a young researcher with a background in political studies who, after completing her education, became increasingly aware of the gap that often exists between studying political systems and participating in them directly. The Civic Atlas Project emerged as a way to engage more practically with questions surrounding democratic governance and institutional resilience. By exploring emerging challenges to democratic systems and the safeguards that support their stability, the project aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how democratic institutions can remain resilient in an evolving political landscape.

To pursue this work, the project publishes in two complementary forms. Briefs are thorough pieces of research, developed over a longer period of time, that examine a question in depth and set out the evidence behind it. Blogs are opinion pieces: shorter, more up to date, and written in response to current developments. Together they allow the project to react to events as they unfold while also building a body of careful, lasting research.
